This conference shall be a part of the EU-conference and workshop
on EU-research topics related to paper and cellulose-based
materials. It will be organised in cooperation with the Inkcor
en Papylum projects.

Meeting summary and aim: |
|
The international event "Durability
of paper and writing"
will be organised in Ljubljana, Slovenia, November 17th-19th
2004. It aims at bringing together scientists, conservators,
collection managers, and policy makers concerned with degradation
of cultural heritage on paper.
The event consists of a conference, organized by three EC Fifth
framework projects PAPYLUM
, InkCor,
and MIP . It is dedicated
to all aspects of paper conservation science: fundamental and
applied; and of two practical workshops, aimed at the dissemination
of results of two 5th Framework Programme projects:
- Papylum workshop, aimed at paper conservation scientists,
a new chemiluminometric instrument and its significance for
paper
conservation science will be demonstrated. For more information,

- InkCor workshop, dedicated to conservators, will present
practical outcomes of the project, focusing on identification
and
stabilization of iron gall ink corrosion. For more information,

Registration fee:
NON MIP members
There will be a registration fee per symposium day. To attend
only one symposium will be EUR 175, and if you want to attend
both days, the fee will be EUR300. Payment has to be done
in advance and after receiving of your registration form,
we will send you an invoice.

Five general items will pass this meeting:
1 Management items, as annual reports, links with others etc.
2 MIP continuation, i.e. TG 3 and TG 4 have now to tell what
they will undertake, while TG 1 and 2 will evaluate briefly
their findings
3 MIP new topic, "education"
4 MIP in September (TG 4 activity, selecting speakers and MIP
meeting)
5 MIP in November (international event, and who will and can
be put on the list of speakers)
One special item is on our menu:
Exchange knowledge with the Iron Gall Ink Corrosion Group
in France (IGIG-France). They want to know what we are doing
and we want to know what they are doing.
Besides we have still to deal with the item on analytical
methods.

Meeting summary and aim: |

This MIP meeting shall consist of two parts. First there will
be an open symposium on February 9, 2004. Not only topics related
to the MIP Network shall be presented here, but also you can
see the answer of your topic here. Therefore you can submit
your topic to the network coordinator. Also there is time reserved
for selected papers. Please send us your abstract (max. 200
words) If you want to present your work to info@miponline.org.
For the forum discussion we welcome questions from the field
and policy makers. Also specific questions can be raised in
advance via e-mail. The Network management shall consider putting
these in the Forum or answer specific questions by giving presentations.
And secondly there will technical working
group discussions for the four Theme Groups. Unfortunately this
meeting is not open, due to confidential topics that will be
discussed here.

We are giving the possibility for interested parties, to attend
the symposium on February 9, 2004. Please do contact the co-ordinator
for more information.A small fee (euro 50) shall be applied
to cover additional and organisation costs.
